Additional Notes: Video Quilt Affirming Palestinian Right to Return

Contributing to the Video Quilt Project is simple!

If you've got a video camera and support the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes of origin, you can help us make the video quilt project happen.

Suggestions and pointers for the Video Messages:

* The videos should be brief- one to two sentences- and can be in English or the native tongue of the subject(s) [seperate written translations for languages other than English or Arabic appreciated]
* The subject should be facing a steady camera as she/he/they give their statement in support of the Right of Return
* Video Messages can be saved on a mini-DV cassette (most video cameras use this), or can be saved onto a DVD or VHS tape.
* Additionally some people may wish to submit the video clip from their computer online rather than send it by postal mail. At this time, we can only accept video clips saved in a Quicktime video format. You can receive directions on how to send us those video clips by emailing us at media@al-awda.org . These files tend to be too large for email so we have a service we use that allows large files to be sent to us online.
*The sender of the Video message should at minimum provide information on who is the subject in the video and the location.

Here are a few suggested phrases:

for Palestinian refugees and exiles-
"I am a Palestinian refugee from the beautiful town of Ramle [name your village or town instead] and I want to return to Palestine!"
"I am a Palestinian refugee and still hold the key and deed to our home in Haifa [name your village or town instead] and WE WILL return!"
"I want to return home to Akka!"
"My parents are refugees and they and I have the Right to Return home in Yaffa."

for supporters-
"We at [name your organization] support and demand the implementation of the Palestinian Right to Return"
"I support the Palestinian Right to Return!"
"I demand the implementation of the Palestinian refugees Right to Return home."
"Palestinian refugees have the Right to Return to Palestine."

In the next few weeks, we will be posting some examples of Video Messages which we hope will encourage many others to submit theirs. Additonally, for those in the Southern California area we are currently organizing recording sessions at local events. If you are interested in having your message recorded at an upcoming event, please email us in advance at media@al-awda.org. You can also help organize similar recoding sessions in other locations.
